AVOIDING SCRATCHES -Make the cue ball your bitch!
I. Avoid scratching in the Corner
A) Set Up:
B) Solution: Use low right with a spin stroke (not a draw stroke)and hit rail first.
II. OB on the rail
A)Set Up: The game is 9-ball. The 8-ball is frozen to the rail and the 9-ball is in the way of you being able to contact the 8 on the right side. If you contact the 8 on the left side, you will scratch. What should you do here?
B) Solution: Hit the 8 almost straight on but just a hair to the left with low. The Cue ball hits the 8 and then the 8 hits the CB turning that low into high. Use half the speed you anticipate because the OB hits the CB which virtually doubles the speed. The 8 will stay right there and the goal is to get the CB on or near the other end rail. The more distance you put between the OB and CB the harder it is for them to do anything with it, plus if you can freeze the CB to the rail, you take away options for your opponent to hit the ball - now they must use high.
III. Avoid Scratch in Side
A) Set Up: How can you avoid the scratch if you want to shoot the OB in the corner pocket?
B) There is too much angle to use high and be able to avoid the scratch. Use low and draw the ball away from the pocket. Combine the low with left so you can avoid it even farther away because the left will throw it into the pocket allowing you to contact the OB fuller.
